What a site – 100 acres amongst some of Australia’s best know Semillon Vineyards. Bob and Terry asked us to help create a dream, a house that blended in with the character of the Hunter Valley and nestled amongst the vines. Both Bob and Terry were living in Singapore for the entire build process. Tim and I worked extensively with them both to design and specify a house that was second to none in the Hunter.
Our biggest task was to build and design a house that would one day be affected by Mine Subsidence. In fact 5 years after completion mining caused the house and surrounding land to settle some 2 metres. Due to our engineering and design concept there was minimal damage to their magnificent 1350 sq metre home.
The house consisted of 230mm wide Red Iron bark floorboards sourced from Queensland as old country bridges. A magnificent 4-bedroom home with 4 Ensuites and main powder room, card room, office, massive walk in robe, 120 sq m lounge/dining room with 3.6meter high paneled ceilings adorned with a hand made naturally lit leadlight. Huge sliding glass doors folded away into wall pockets opening up to the massive loggia for entertainment.
Time and Budget were not an issue with changes constantly being created throughout the build.
