Your bedroom is your relaxation zone and the one room where you can unwind peacefully at the end of a particularly hectic day. This is also the room where everything has to be just right – you want your bedroom to be aesthetically-appealing and functional.
While most luxury bedrooms are spacious enough, you want to ensure that the room doesn’t look cluttered and there is plenty of space for the right movement flow. Even if you have a large bedroom, there are different ways in which you can optimise your bedroom’s floor area and make it look even more open and attractive.
#1 Strategically-placed wardrobes or walk-in closets
When you are getting your custom luxury home built you would have to decide whether you want a full-fledged walk-in wardrobe or if you prefer full height wardrobes built into a niche or nook in the bedroom. When it comes to wardrobes or closets, the placement matters a great deal.
If you prefer, your wardrobe can also double-up as a room divider that creates a private changing space right there within the bedroom. This space can easily be connected to the bathroom so you are able to access things from the closet more conveniently. Discuss these details with your builder or designer. They will make sure these features are designed well and placed strategically to make optimal use of the available area.
#2 Use bay windows to your benefit
Bay windows are a charming addition to your home’s architecture and if you have one of these features in your bedroom, you should make optimal use of the unique design opportunities it provides. There are a number of stylish & creative ways in which you can integrate this bay window area into the overall design and floor space of your bedroom. The different things you can do with this spot include:
- Create a luxurious window seat with comfortable throw pillows; place an area rug on the floor to add a pop of colour.
- Design and install informal coffee table space- you can get a semi-circular seating arrangement installed with a small coffee table at the centre of this area. It can become the perfect seating area where you can have your morning cuppa.
- If you aren’t going to open up these windows often, the niche carved out by the bay windows can become the ideal spot to place your entertainment system. If you want to create a clean and uncluttered look, simply add siding panels that can be used to conceal the TV and peripherals when not in use.
- If the bay window is wide enough, you can consider getting a platform bed built in that space. The raised bed can also provide ample storage, and will add an interesting element and perspective to the roo. Since a large portion of the bed will be incorporated into the bay window area, it will give you much more floor space to move around or place any other furniture in.
#3 Cosy reading nook
If you are fond of reading and like the idea of having a small private reading space in your bedroom, a nook or odd-shaped area can be used for this purpose. You can build floor to ceiling height book shelves here. Place custom designed accent chairs and small end tables with carefully–chosen table lamps to complete this cosy reading nook.
